I'm a software engineer turned engineering leader. I came up through the craft, from frontend and full-stack work to senior and staff engineering at companies like Sonos and Oracle, and now lead web engineering at FloSports as a Director of Engineering. I care about shipping reliable software and building teams that can keep shipping it without me in the room.

I started about as far from software as you can get (I trained as an aircraft mechanic) and worked my way in. That path is probably why I optimize for getting people unstuck and moving, not for being the smartest person in the channel.

What I do now

  • Lead web engineering at FloSports across several squads (roughly a dozen engineers).
  • Own the consumer streaming web app and a shared web platform and design system that other product teams build on.
  • Keep web performance and reliability a first-class concern across multiple product areas.
  • Help drive platform evolution and AI enablement, shaping how engineering adopts AI to ship faster.
  • Grow the team by hiring for trajectory and developing engineers into their next level.

How I lead

  • Ship over being right. I'd rather a team correct a wrong call in a week than perfect a decision for a month.
  • Hire for trajectory, not level. Slope over intercept. I spend real time growing people into their next role.
  • Incidents are a tax on missing systems, not on people. Reviews are blameless, or they don't change anything.
